Picked up a Patriot album for a quarter and I've decided to fill it with used stamps of which I have thousands which doesn't include the pounds of stamps I have for my students. Have I gone mad?

Should I mount them the way I use to? That was mucilage glue which I don't even think is made anymore. |

In general my answer to any query's with the word "mucilage" in them is "No".
Have fun with the stamps!

I have a somewhat advanced US collection mounted on Mystic pages in ten binders, mostly mint from 1920 on. I have often been tempted lately to buy a Harris Liberty album and try to fill as much of it as I can with nice used stamps. Nothing at all wrong with anything like this. It helps bring back the joy we all felt when we were beginners. |

I started off with an old Ambassador album as a child. I stopped collecting for a long time and eventually started again. When I found my old album, I threw it away, stamps and all, in disgust. As a young child, I did not have hinges so I used scotch tape. Every stamp in the album was stained. Nothing salvageable. |

Things Beginners Do: a good topic for a thread, a web page, and maybe even a museum exhibit or two (NPM, APRL, RMPL, et al) We could have a nice plate block, floated off of its First Day Cover ... what else? So far it has been fun, a diversion from my regular collecting. In my opinion what else do I do with the used stamps? |

Stamps,
You are absolutely right. I am doing the same as you, sort of. I am presently collecting KGVI and am hinging the stamps like I did as a child. Kind of re-living my childhood.

I certainly don't want to suggest anything that would take away your having fun with the old album, but one thing that could be done with used stamps that are excess, is to donate them to a charity. I believe there are some that accept them. Just a thought. . . |
