Perfin : NZL 13-9-7 (this use 1927) (common perfin) New Zealand Loan & Mercantile Agency Ltd was incorporated in England in 1865 and again, after reconstruction, in May 1894. The main purpose of the company to provide investment and loan of monies in New Zealand and elsewhere, trade and commerce. It originally planned to confine its operations to New Zealand but decided to extend business to Australia in 1874. Operations were soon extended to various Australian states. Australian operations were separated from those of New Zealand and operated under their own local board from 1889. http://www.perfins.com.au/OZ-Revenu...Perfins.html br / |

Rod222 So the Seven Seas is a good catalogue for Australasian stamps? I haven't bought/used one since (about) the early '80s. I must pull one out and re-evaluate. Since dragging out my stamps from hibernation late last year I'm starting to think Australian stamps up to about 1979 are much more interesting than from 1980. I suppose that's due to better technology and less errors appearing... I'll say not as interesting rather than 'boring'... but I find errors more appealing than a broad range of stamps that are overprinted with 'Sydpex' for example... no where near the same as the excitement over finding flaws and so on... Where would you rate the Seven Seas in relation to other catalogues (info/price) in respect to the above, that is, flaws and so-on? Thanks for your feedback and the image page of SS, way more comprehensive than I would have ever thought. |

Quote: Where would you rate the Seven Seas in relation to other catalogues Tough call, as I don't like to be critical. Seven Seas is a fabulous Catalogue for a beginner, background information on stamps, multiple local area listings, glossy pages, good colour images. I use multiple catalogues to get the best results 1. Scott for my main catalogue, marries well with my Steiner Pages (Happy to pay full price this one) 2. Stanley Gibbons for detailed information on the Australian States. (buy second hand from the State Library) 3. Brusden White (when I can afford them) The absolute tops...but I can only afford second hand older editions. 4. Seven seas for stationery, koala reprints, stamp packs, First day Covers, Maxi cards, stamp replica cards, year books, framas. (Buy second hand from club auctions) |

A Macquarie Island and Mawson cover from a recent purchase. I have no idea why they are using a First Day Cover, unless that is all the sender had at the time. Macquarie Island, December 13, 1955. Mawson, March 5, 1956. Bonus: 1954 Expedition Cinderellas. I think I am missing one of them. |

Nice one Partime, I'm finding the more I look at my stamps the more interested in such things as postmarks I am. Unfortunately stamps on cover isn't something I have much of, but there's always the stamp if I'm lucky. Having gone from bedroom at 14 to 2017 and internet I'm blown away by what has survived the ravages of time. Is there a thread for interesting postmarks for Australia, I found this recently while rummaging through a box of stamps I never got round to soaking, I wouldn't think these are too common - |

Nice A.N.A.R.E. covers for Macquarie Island and Mawson ! No concordance, I can see, between the stamps and FDC's. Quote: Bonus: 1954 Expedition Cinderellas. I think I am missing one of them. Missing a few, they were printed in 2 sets of colours Hope you can read the faint print. |

Quote: Is there a thread for interesting postmarks for Australia, You really don't need one. The best route for (both) locating Postmarks, and a trip for Google, is to place a pertinent text string in your post. Example: If you typed "Postmark NSW Money Order Paddington 1988" one could find this in a trice, here on SCF and, searching via Google. It is a good regime to adopt when making posts. Otherwise, nice Pmk! Castor, dashed if I can find any ref on Google, "Money Order ? " teller ? any idea? First time I can recall ever seeing a Phone number on a Postmark |

Postmark "Purple Money Order (Paid) Paddington, NSW, 1985" Thanks Rod, total sense, how's the above string - should cover it.. I believe the last digit of the year is '5', both to the naked eye and through a magnifying glass. Shame a bit of a smudge. To show my lack of knowledge goes further than stamps, can you tell me how I go about using 'quotes' in my threads - I lack basics And yes, to have a phone number on a postmark. Obviously this office and others are set up for such a postal mark but I would expect them to be one of the least types used (wonder how many types there are?). As I have numerous stamps on paper hopefully there are some more goodies. |

PS: Instead of using paste, faster is hold CTRL and hit V key, (you probably knew that already) "If you don't fail, now and again...it's a sign you are sitting on the fence" Woody Allen |

"If you don't fail, now and again...it's a sign you are sitting on the fence" Woody Allen Depends, if you're sitting in front of your tv only with mouse and rest (it's actually one of those tv dinner table things on a 'fluffy miniature polystyrene balls pillow' - works well as a mouse pad! So the keyboard sits to the side until needed. I like where you come from Rod, I think in each of us is an Einstein (to various degrees), very capable in some things but at a loss or not even aware of some other things. If you get where I'm coming from... Woody Allen, an amazing person.... |
