or
"The Entrance"

Bottom of ring looks like "ST" as South Aust or West Aust
(Not in the correct part of the ring for "VICT")

Could be rare-very rare, I do not have it listed....It even could be a new type. Then again, it may be common.

The Postmark is Elphinstone (11 Km ESE of Castlemaine)
Opened as Post office on 1st February 1854

I have an ELPHINSTONE VIC (In Violet which your poor scan would suggest)
Used 5th December 1919 to 3rd May 1921

Rarity not given (but "RO" not listed) I don't think it is registered Office, but then again, I am not a specialist in Vic Postmarks.

There was an ELPHINSTONE RS (Near Elphinstone) opened as a PO about 1920 closed November 1923

Way beyond my budget, but lovely to ogle the deep end of Australia.

Never warmed to Booklet appreciation, collectors would show similar perplexity with my fondness of Dune stamps.

A pleasure, Rod. I'm with you on booklets, except that I would like one or two of those fabulous French booklets from the inter-war period - perhaps I'll spring for an example if the boat ever comes in.

This is out of the period you asked about, but might still be of interest if you've not seen it before.

This is the "Victoria Monthly Postal & Telegraph Guide" of Sep. 1878 and it lists 220 telegraph stations.

As you mentioned, out of our time frame, but extremely valuable to us.

We have a Postmark, we believe only 1 other in existence, but teasingly, only a few letters of the Post Office.
The letters match one instance CV $340 but the position on the ring is doubtful.

When the stamp arrives, we shall report further.
