Hello - This is my first post here, so I hope it's OK in this forum! I make jewelry with vintage stamps, and have been trying in vain to find another stamp with this angel on it (attached image). It was a largish stamp, and said Poste Il Vaticane L.15 at the top, but no date. Does anyone know what year it is, or more about it? I would like to find another one, or several more. I have looked at ebay and on several stamp forums with no luck, since I don't know the year. Thanks so much!

Sharon

**shiver**

Horror of horrors, you do (gulp) what with vintage stamps? Sacrilege!

Oh, the humanity!

Burn the heretic! Burn the heretic!

Seriously, I'll take a look and see if I can locate this one in my catalogue, and welcome to our group.

I thought about that after I posted <ducks> Sorry! It's probably in bad taste for me to come in here with pictures of my mutilated stamps, BUT I do love them, and feel like I am preserving them and their stories (I generally use cancelled stamps) by placing them in something that is meant to be out in the world. And thanks for the welcome!

I think it's a tremendous idea and they're gorgeous . It's even better to hear that you have a passion behind your work too.

I looked through the Vatican City section of Scott Catalogue, but I don't see her. She must be a small portion of a larger design?

Sorry, KirkS

You're the man, Bobgggg!

I found them in the catalog only after seeing your scan.

SHARON -- notice the stamp you're looking for has a Scott Catalog number of C26 and is valued as 20 cents for either mint or used.

Another mystery solved.

And, really, Sharon, I think that your craftwork is kind of neat.

Is that an earring, by any chance?

WOW! You guys are amazing! Thank you so much bobgggg! And thank you chequer, I will check that our right away. Those other angel stamps look gorgeous!

The stamp is from a necklace I sold - I make the pendants out of polymer clay and powdered mica, seal them, then trim the stamp to fit. I stamp the backs with birds usually, or a pattern that matches the stamp. I usually include the stamp's information on the card. I sell my jewelry at a local store here in VA and online. I love looking at these old stamps, especially the canceled ones - and thinking about the chain of people that must have touched the stamp - the person who sent the letter, the postal worker who canceled it, and the person on the receiving end. I sometimes make up little stories in my head about what all those people were doing and feeling on hat particular day that the stamp was used. (Not to get overly philosophical or anything) I like to frame the stamps and then have people admire them - I have just recently found the stamp world and can tell I might get a teeny bit obsessed. :)

Thank you again - I actually reserved a stamp atlas today at the library and was planning on going through it page by page until I found the angel. This is much faster!

One more question - when I sealed that stamp, the glitter in the ink (or the paper?) really popped out. Is/was that a common thing, to have a sparkle to the ink? I don't remember seeing many of the other vintage stamps I have that had any sort of sparkle to them.

Thanks! The store is Patina Antiques in Charlottesville, they do not have a website as of now.

I hope to stick around - I am just newly learning about stamps, but I think they are very interesting, and look forward to learning more. I just got the Mystic Stamp catalog and enjoyed looking through that.
