I found these three California Revenue stamps laying around and cannot find any information relating to them such as listing numbers and value, if any. I noticed one stamp has a $7.00 value, which seems to be high for that time period.

They are listed in the state revenue catalog.

The $7 puce stamp is D38, given a catalog value of $25. The 4 cent is D2; CV = $2.50. Finally, the 20 cent is D6a; CV 15.00.

According to the SRS catalog, these were "used to pay Attorney, Exchange, Insurance, and Passenger taxes, 1866-72." $7 may seem high, but this particular series apparently went all the way up to $56! One thing I always enjoyed about this series is the tendency toward very specific values.

They're neat state revenues that come up from time to time. The $7 is the real catch here, although the D6a is cool too, as most of these that I see regularly are the imperf and not the rouletted kind.

They also seem to have the security stamp R.W., for Robert Watt, who was the state Controller from December 7, 1867 until December, 1871. The only date I could readily discern was on the 4¢ and that was 1869, right in the middle of Watt's tenure.
