I think I found one of the Queen Victoria major entry stamps, plate position 94. I cannot wait to get it in and get a closer look. If there were 1,200,000 total stamps printed then wouldn't this variety only have 12,000 printed (1 per sheet of 100)? I really hope this is the major re-entry I think it is. Any opinions? Does Unitrade list a value for this variety (18iv maybe)?

Jaxom, this is definitely 18iv major re-entry. in addition to the line in E of pence, look at the oval doubling right of TAGE. Unitrade 2015 lists this variety at 175$ in VF condition, and 300 in Fine condition. Yours has excellent centering and margins (F to VF) but a few pulled perf at top may affect its F grading. Nice find |

That certainly is the major re-entry from plate position 94. Nice copy that shows the re-entry very clearly. In addition to the features mentioned by Gilles, notice also lines of doubling at top of "IN" in "STERLING", marks and distortion of "PACKET", a strong mark at the top of the upper right "2", and some nice doubling below the bottom right "2". |

Thanks guys. As soon as I get it in, I will post a better scan. I was hoping the value was higher because of the scarcity. Those prices are about the same as any other printing.
If there were 1,200,000 total stamps printed then wouldn't this variety only have 12,000 printed (1 per sheet of 100)? Or is a re-entry done after the plate was worn? I do not think that is the case because re-entry.com shows the marks from a proof sheet. I thought a re-entry was a "touch-up" done as the plates were getting worn. Does the quantity issued include the blue-green varieties as well? Would the blue-green have the same re-entry? How does that work? Was there only one imperf sheet printed? If the re-entry was done from the start, would the imperf sheet have a unique copy of the re-entry?

Re-entries can be created during plate production if the original entry was not considered good enough.

I believe that this re-entry occurred in all printings of this stamp issue, therefore all 12,000 that you mention were printed. This does make it scarce but the really rare re-entries or flaws only occurred during a short period of time during the time the stamp was printed.
For example, this re-entry was present on the proof. Now if the plate had been repaired early on then it would be quite rare. But I don't think this re-entry was ever repaired. Maybe someone else could confirm this.
Your copy is a very nicely centered stamp which is hard to find on this issue. This would give it the VF Condition. Couple of short perfs in the upper right. Very nice stamp, especially for a find. |

With strong earlier entry showing everywhere, it surely looks like a major re-entry. Great impression. Nice stamp! |
