Not damaged agmasd56. Just adds to the interest of an ordinary stamp. Some folks collect perfins (perforated initials). Sun Life was founded in 1865 in Montreal, where your stamp appears to be canceled. Seeing as that's Queen Victoria, that would be a relatively early perfin. Later perfins from the company spelt out the entire name SUN LIFE.
