My Latest Score On E-Bay

For all who say you can't find any more good buys on E-bay, I just received a lot I bought before Christmas. Looking at the title and the first few pictures, this http://www.ebay.com/itm/15236298274...RK:MEBIDX:IT lot doesn't look like anything special. Then, I got to picture 6. I couldn't submit a best offer fast enough when I saw it. The box came in the mail today. The majority of the lot is common items. Lots of quantity, mostly common material. A few covers I can add to my collection. But, the Freedom from Hunger sheets are a different story. There are about 10 mint copies of the tete-beche sheet, and another 5 first day covers of the whole sheet. There are also a bunch of part sheets on FDC, as well as booklets on FDC. The mint sheets go for about $150 each on e-bay, the FDC's are a lot scarcer, and rarely come up for sale, and when they do, they go for a lot more. I haven't seen one for sale recently, and now I have 4 duplicates...

Knowledge scores again! I think ebay is a gold mine for those know their stuff.

ebay is like mining for diamonds, you have to dig through a lot of dirt and mud, but occasionally you find a philatelic Koh-i-Nur gemstone buried down deep.

Totally agree with the above. There are and have been, still, some very good deals to be had on ebay. It takes time and patience, but for me it is very much worth the effort. I find that the hunt is as much fun as the acquisition.

Congratulations ,agree some of the large lots need to be looked at for a possible treasure find .

My opinion...
For every story of an ebay 'find' there are thousands and thousands of sales which do not.

The best 'find' is a good, ethical seller.

The best advice we can give newer collectors is to not hunt for treasures, that quality stamps generally sell for a premium and not a discount, and to stick with quality sellers like Clark Frazier and Ken Srail until they have several years of experience.

Edit: I agree with the diamond mining analogy; the majority of diamond hunters go bankrupt looking for treasures.

I trawl ebay all the time. My best buys have usually been from inexperienced sellers, not those with "several years of experience". I buy from them also but your contention is basically complete nonsense.
