Hi guys...as a flyspecker I a always looking for mistakes/oddities/varieties...I came across a variety you dont see too much..Double tagged stamp.

Below is what has happened to this stamp...The stamp originally came out with a GT4 (4bar) tag and for some reason it was also hit with a GT2 (2 bar) tagging as the illustration below explains.

I know this picture is hard to see as compared with stamp in hand under an ultra violet lamp...Top 2 red arrows shows you what is on the stamp, all around the edge...The arrows on the side show the GT2 tagging (2 bars)..kind of a neat variety...eh.

I manipulated it with GIMP (Free replacement for phot0 shop) to get better look at the tagging which the photo does not really show you.

Now I do not understand..........from Wikipedia ? (the online resource for stamp people )

Why not a double tagging.....I am researching the "tagging" archives of Canada !

Obviously I fail as a flyspeccer, I don't see the additional tagging.

After my research of the literature on Canadian tagging (ref: Unitrade's Specialized Catalogue of Canadian STAMPS 2016)pp23-24) Wert does present an interesting observation......double "tagging" - Will look at my stamps under UV light.....just in case.......

conclusion: my stamp and Souvenir sheet Capex 87 have the GT4 (style 2) tagging

Now what is more astounding is the fact that Unitrade recognizes the doubling at the top of the stamp (Horizontal)..As you can see, my doubling is vertical on left and right sides, NOT horizontal as Unitrade says.

This is very interesting.

What happened to this stamp, and also the 1987 36c definitive stamp, No. 925B, was that they were issued at the time of the transition from 2 vertical bars on the sides, to bars on all 4 sides for first class mail.

The stamps were printed with 2 vertical bars before they were issued, but were later overprinted with 4 bar tagging when the decision to switch was made.
