Old Style Minkus Supreme Binders Compared To The New Ones Opinions And Preferences?

I am trying to figure out if the old style Minkus Supreme and Master Binders with the curved bars and 2 rods are better or worse than the new style with the straight bars that only open from 1 side.

I now have 24 Supreme and Master albums to put into binders as well as the new pages from Amos that go to 1963.

I will also be using interleaving in all of them.

Has any one used both and which would you prefer, and why?

I can't answer your query as I don't use the Minkus Supreme/Master binders for my thick paper 1840-1952, 1953-1963, 1964-1966 Supreme pages from Amos. Rather, I prefer to put them in 3-ring binders with interleaving. It takes eight 3-ring (D-ring) 1 1/4" Avery heavy duty binders for the 1840-1952 pages, for instance. (The Supreme pages from Amos were already pre-punched for 3-rings. I do have, however, a hole puncher that is capable of punching 3-rings for the Supreme pages, if necessary.)

I personally prefer to handle a smaller section of countries/pages at any one time.

But the Minkus binders are impressive, are traditional, and look good on the shelf - so good luck with your your organization!

I have a number of both versions and I prefer the new flat spine with the single opening side. Just a better design. As time goes on I will move up to the newer version but I doubt I will ever stop using the old ones until the spine fails.




This is an older photo so I have more of the newer style than the older style now. I probably add 4-6 new albums per year and replace the older ones as they fail.

I am using both styles, I like the new style post system but I feel the new style binders do not hold up as well as the older ones. The red background is wearing off on my new style from my handling of the albums. I am adding stamps several times a week,so these get beat up a bit. My old style albums don't show the red rubbing off, If you compare the gold printing and the red background side by side the older ones look much better, the covers are thicker as well.The binding seems to hold up better on the old style, I assume my old style binders are from the 50's, not sure when the new style started but the new ones are overall not as well built.

Wow, flyinlo. That's a lot of albums. Are they full of stamps, too?

Well there are a lot of blank pages in there but there are countries that are very heavy. It just has to do with what I am into at the time. Many countries I just can't help myself and collect as many as I can handle, others not so much. For the last ten or more years I stopped buying pre-printed pages, I've been printing my own since. A while ago I got a industrial laser printer so there's little thought as to who much toner I use, I've redesigned the border to emulate the original Minkus border instead of the single line border I had been using for years, I like them much more this way. At this time my focus is mounting the thousands of pieces I have amassed but never mounted. I generally don't buy singles without a margin and I like full sheets, blocks and strips with margins still attached which is the main reason I longer buy pre-printed pages.
