Hi all this is the album they sell by itself on their website for 14.99 or as part of the new collector kit for the same price but with hinges. My question is does anyone know what years and stamps this album spans? I'm looking for a good single volume album that spans US stamp history from the beginning but maybe doesn't have all of the different varieties and really expensive stamps. The website says this album goes from 1851-2012 but that Amazon reviews say only 1950s to present. I emailed Mystic but haven heard back. I appreciate any feedback. I'm looking to casually collect stamps and want a good representation not just the last half century and I don't have the budget for some of the really expensive ones. Thanks.

Kevro22, welcome to the forum. Can you be a bit more specific as to what album you are talking about? Like give us a number?

Kevro, it only contains certain stamps. If you are looking for a complete album ( one that has room for all the stamps issued ) you need to look some more. There are several options; you might want to give Mystic a call.

Peter- correct I'm looking for an album that doesn't contain every single stamp, just a good representation of our nations stamp history. From reviews this album looks like what I'm looking for just trying to confirm the actual date range it covers. The website says 1851-2012 but Amazon reviews said otherwise. Just seeing if anyone else had that album and could answer. Thanks for your help! Kevin |

Free call to Mystic: 1-866-660-7147 They are closed weekends. I did not notice a start date for the album on Mystic or Amazon site nor in the reviews. When you get the answer please let us know. |

Kevro,
Your best bet is to call them as their ad doesn't specify what pages are included. 1-866-660-7147. You may want to consider the next step up. For $45- you can buy the complete US set which includes all years 1847 to present. Later on you can upgrade the album binders.

Thanks all for the feedback! I will call them first of the week. Agree it may be worth just getting the 3 volume heirloom album in the end I guess. I am a lifelong (40+) coin/currency collector and for what I'm collecting I'm getting down to the major purchases where I'll need to save up for a long time. I'm looking for something relatively inexpensive to fill the time while I save up for the next big purchase and have decided on stamps. I've read a little about the hobby before but never plunged into it in any degree to where I was getting an album etc. however the more I research it the more I'm wondering how I didn't get into it earlier! |

It's a fun hobby and can be as cheap or expensive as you want it to be :)

where's your spirit of adventure? :)
Hit craig's list and see if you can pick up somebody's old, dusty book, maybe with some stamps in it already.
Besides, a box full odd bits of paper and your having to figure out what they are is exactly the sort of problem that will give you a great introduction to the wide variety of stamps out there.

Hi all, just an update to this. Mystic said their Historic Stamps album covers the late 1940s to present but doesn't include all stamps. I went ahead on the advice of above and just ordered the 3 Vol Heirloom set w/ the stamps and hinges for $45+shipping. I figured I couldn't do much better given I'd like to try to collect some stamps from the entire history of production and not just the last half century. I'll see how that goes and go from there. Thanks for the feedback! |

Kervo,
A lot of good suggestions so far. Although I am a big MYSTIC fan, I still like my old "All American" album.

So I received the Mystic 3 volume Heriloom set this week. After getting a few minutes away from work I had a chance to go through it some last night. I have to say I'm impressed with what I got for what I paid and am happy I decided to go this route vs a smaller, less complete album. The open flat binders are perfect for viewing the pages with the album lying flat on my desk. I also went through the 200 cancelled stamps included and noticed a handful weren't actually cancelled including a few stamps that I remember seeing when I was a child. What nostalgia! I practiced mounting a few with the included hinges. I don't see myself buying every single variety of every single stamp but that still leaves many, many hours of fun going through things. I'm looking forward to this new journey and can't believe I didn't get into this hobby before. |
