Hi there!

I inherited a small stamp collection that includes US & foreign stamps.

I scanned a few of the pages and am posting them here. I have more.

Some of the stamps have descriptive notes, including numbers, but I don't know when they were written or if they are even accurate.

I've tried to figure this out on my own but as I am a resume writer who has a small knowledge base regarding this subject matter, I'm not having much luck on my own.

I thought about buying a stamp program so that I could determine if any of the stamps have any value at all! Guessing, though, if these are worthless then there is a good possibility that the rest might be as well - and it really wouldn't make much sense to invest any money!

It also wouldn't make sense to begin a stamp collection with fake stamps!

If any of you can provide some insight/assistance/expertise, thanks so much in advance!

Shari

My guess: no significant value (20$?) many valuable Iran stamps were fakes made years ago.

IMHO, you would be better off going to the library and using stamp catalogs rather than buying software -- YMMV.

Welcome.
A few observations.
- Persian stamps can be tricky and might not be a good representation of the rest of the collection.
- The stamps shown appears to be a good start on a general collection, nothing rare jumps out at me.
- One of the enjoyable aspects of stamp collecting is that you can sometimes stumble on a rarer stamp. But few folks would become art collectors with the aspiration of finding a rare painting. Instead, look to collecting for the intrinsic satisfaction and any 'finds' as a possible rare treat. Turning a hobby into a business is usually one sure way to suck all the enjoyment out of it.
