Fischer catalog doesn't list this plate flaw for No. 423A. These 1947 "Culture" sets are very common. Listed plate flaw values for these stamps, used, are in the $1-$5 range. |

Hi Same,
I like the fact that you study your stamps very carefully. Personally, I do not have the patience to do so, because I have hundreds of thousands of stamps to sort through (I like to by in bulk :) ). But please do not jump into a conclusion that the stamp is a variety, especially a rare variety, just because it has some imperfections. Usually, known varieties are listed in specialized catalogs. And if variety is not listed, even if it's "rare", usually collectors have no interest in it, simply because it is not listed. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong. |

Redwood,
You a right, of course, but in this particular case the lack of "1" is pretty glaring; I suspect that, if this error woould be presented to the editors of Fischer catalog by one of the "respected experts" in Poland, and if they would determine that this error repeats in sheets comprising a substantial part of the run, they would list it as one of their many "plate flaws." After all, that's how catalog editors, who are always in cahoots with major dealers and auction houses, motivate the market.
The fact is, though, that these sets were issued in such quantities that any repeated error would not command a substantial price. |

Is there any evidence that the stamp was ever issued with the full 1945 showing? The souvenir sheet shown no sign of the 1 in front of the 945, and I have never seen it appearing on the single stamp either. |

Um, sorry to throw a spanner in the works, but this is NOT a flaw, it's how the design is MEANT to be. You can see it clearly on this example which is taken from the "Culture" mini-sheet of 1948, printed very cleanly by Courvoisier. The fun part of this set are the perforations. You can make up 3 sets - imperf, perf 10¾, perf 11, actually these are perf 10.8 & 11.1 respectively. It's when you come to the 2nd set that things get interesting. As well as the 3 perf varieties, you've got thin & thick papers, as well as several of the values being printed with different screens, a wonderful & cheap study area. |

So, it's not a bug, it's a feature! That's why Fischer doesn't say anything about it. Interesting. Thank you, YeaPolska. |

This auktionkreuzerasia site seems to be a very strange, amateurish kind of scam. Or is it a joke? |

first you state it's extremely rare, then you state it's common and then you say it was all just to promote some website (which i'm hesitating to click on)
is this a language barrier? or am I just overly confused? |
