I was thinking of buying these but I turned them down.

I would like other collectors opinions on these and rough value to see if my opinon and decision were correct.

[A great place to ask this would be in the CANADA forum]

If they had to be purchased as a lot, I would say 40% Scott catalog is a fair price.

Should be 1897, excuse the Typo

So, you think around $1500 - $1600

I am a little concerned about what appears to be very low almost cut perfs on some of these.

They are in a collection of Canada, which is quite extensive for earlier stamps at around $3600 Canadian

There are some minor imperfections, and cancels on $1 and $2 a little heavy, but overall, these are not bad. Offer 80% of asking price and see what happens?

It really depends on the backside. Any thins tears or creases then maybe 25- 30% of catalog value as they look FVF and appealing. If clean sound and no faults then maybe 60% of catalog value is equitable. You have more advantage if dealing with Canada as the US dollar is quite strong against the CAD.

Good luck. The jubilees high values are a great accomplishment.

If I wanted mint, I would not be considering these. I am working on a used Canada collection, not a mint collection.

Also, we don't all have deep pockets!

If you want a good idea of what some of these stamps sell for used, just go to the Maresch and Sons Auction page and see for yourself. If all you are interested is the dollar jubilees used, then so some patience, and pick them off one at a time at that auction house. The prices are quite reasonable.

Mint versus used: the $5 specimen got an unusual nice postmark for this particular stamp, in my opinion much more attractive than unused or mint.

The look of those stamps gives me pause - long toothy irregular perfs and non-parallel borders. I would pass on these. With so many high value Jubes are reperfed and repaired, it is better to examine them in person before buying.
