I agree that serial number 1's have commanded a premium - historical fact. However, I question why one should pay more for a number 1. Since during the early period of the red dated documentary stamps did not reset the numbering each year, shouldn't the lowest number each year command a premium as well? Frankly that information is not widely distributed, I doubt we will see such premiums in the near future. But revenue enthusiasts could perhaps find the stamps and then trumpet their status as the lowest serial of a given Scott numbered stamp.
