I want to start inventorying my collections and looking for something that I could use as a starter for an excel file. There can be several sources: excel like from a specialist group, dealer with comprehensive stock, etc. I have some some searching but nothing yet. Any help would be appreciated? For example, http://www.stampcat.com/news.php has listing by the countries of interest are not listed.

I would not use any dealer electronic listing because he would only list what he has to sell . I would use the STANLEY GIBBONS catalog to make the inventory listing . |

You should be able to pick up an old Gibbons Commonwealth catalogue cheap on ebay, which may also be of use when you move in to other countries.. |

used to like stampworld, but now there are commercials all over the page, can't stand to use it anymore, not that it was that accurate to begin with, but good tool to figure out where stamps were from and so.
would also recommend a used catalogue.. Stanley Gibbons should be on your selves if you're interested in commonwealth. |

Speaking of stampworld.com, has anyone every bought material listed there? Many (or most) of the sellers seem to be in Eastern Europe, so I have been extremely reluctant.
Experiences to share? |

Hi I use stampworld.com quite frequently and do find it useful to identify and date some stamps. I have pointed out to the web master a couple of errors which have been fixed up. I do collect Malay states and FMS ,only the tiger issues up to 1934.I find Stanley Gibbons far more comprehensive than Scott's Using Steiner's printable album pages the 1900 /1904 FMS tiger has a listing of eight stamps.I have made a page using Stanley Gibbons Commonwealth & Empire stamps listing and it has twenty two stamps.Far more detailed listing. Thanks all. PostmasterGS sent me some basic info in excel format that was what I wanted. I just wanted to jump start creating my on own inventory file with descriptions. These websites like stampworld have a lot of info but needed a way to get into excel easily.
I thinking about it one would think there would be one place to go to get such files given many have their collections in varying formats (spreadsheet, database). |
