Looks like a philatelic made cover ,made years later after the inflation period . First the ink in the cancels are too light ,second those canceling devices are known to be stolen ,unusual to see that many different values used on a regular envelope ......I would pass on that cover . |

A Philatelistic cover yes, although every letter looked like that in that period postal rates changed very quickly so combinations of Tausend Million and Milliarden stamps were not unusual. The letter is within the hyper inflation period, that ended for letters on the first of December 1923 when the new currency system was introduced. The total postage does not make sense unless the the letter was really heavy and the postlagernd had any influence. maybe other members can add some info. Kind regards, Johan. |

the logic use of stamps would be 1 or more stamp ouf the highest possible value. and the one or more extra stamps to get to whatever amount needed.
you should always be on alert if you see covers with numerous stamps, they are in almost all cases made by stamp collectors over the years, and most often sent from one to another or from one to him/herself!
although they might be very colorful and nice to look at, be sure you don't pay too much for these items. |

One should always be skeptical of high inflation period cancels, but I wouldn't dismiss this cover offhand. The Swiss receiving cancel adds a little credibility. The envelope paper is different/better than one usually sees on these items. This adds to suspicion.
I would send to an expertizer/Bundespruefer for a better opinion. |

Hello,
To add a little bit:
All "MILLIARDEN" stamps with a total of 40 Billions is the correct foreign rate up to 20g letter. This rate was good from 12.11 to 19.11 (8 days) so last day of the "portoperiod" 24.
Other stamps are like others said, philatelic.
On the back, the sender wrote "Expedited from newly poste restante ILMENAU THURINGEN". Meaning he didn't have an address.
Adding more, I see two plate flaws.
1) 10 MILLIONEN has the PE I
2) 2 MILLIONEN has the Flatted numeral 2 (overprint) this flaw is present on many position but not on all sheets. Other stamps with this overprint have this flaw too.
Best regards
