I found this and about 3 other cards with russian stamps on them that looked liked they were ordered from a company. I recently got my grandfathers' stamp album and it was passed to him from my great grandfather......and now to me. Well there are tons of stamps in there and they are all from the 1950's 40's 30's and earlier. These cards are old and slightly yellow because of their age. I believe this was ordered by one of my grandfathers' around the 1950s' or so. Possibly. On the paper that it is lightly hinged to it reads:

" RUSSIA-Provisional Government-Civil War 1889-1912 Issue"

"This stamp was used by the Provisional Russian Government headed by Kerensky in 1917. After the Tzar and his entire household and aides were murdered or driven from Russian in 1916 Civil War broke out. This was the forerunner of the present Communist government. This is a rare stamp and will become scarcer and more valuable for your collection in the future. Ask your collector friends- I'll bet not one in a hundred has this swell item. Very reasonable price, too. Russia has the world's largest land area, 8,708,070 Square miles, all of northern Asia and part of Eastern Europe, and a population of about 193,000,000 people. The capital is Moscow. Their money...Kopeks and Rubles. Now known as the Union of Soviet Socialists Republics."

And you got to remember.....This was written in like the 1950's or earlier. I need to know about how much its worth ASAP.

Thanks for joining us here at our site.
I'm at work currently and can't give you an estimate.
Consider this, that is it may have a little more value with the attached card
as a historical note.
There may be someone on this site whom may get to the answer sooner.

Good Collecting!

The misplaced centre on this stamp gives it a retail value of between $5-$10. The card [in my humble opinion] is not that old but just printed for display purposes.

I like this stamp though, and there are many errors to collect from this one issue alone.

Londonbus1.....also a bit misplaced

From what I can tell this is Scott's #131. Common worth .15 in my 1995 catalogue.

But it's an error !!
The orange-red centre has shifted downwards.
There are also upward shifts, sideways shifts, double centre, no centre and shifted double !!
They make quite an attractive collection by themselves....if found in blocks even more so.

As I said, the retail value for the regular shift is about $5-$10.

Londonbus1.....Still a bit misplaced.

PS. If anyone wants a shift I think I have one or two.

Londonbus....

It's not an error....just a freak....as you state they can be found with shifting in many directions.

Scott does not list ANY vignette shifts as errors....some are listed as a variety....but, not as errors.

I'd say everyone is correct. For a general (most) collectors the value is minimal. But for a very narrow market of Russian varity collector what Londonbus1 estimates could be realized. I do have a Russian Catalogue from Russia, I could try to see if this variation is marked. I still like the card!

Sharksfan.....Your stamp is not 131. It is either 45,68 or 87 depending on what type of paper it is.

The 'Freaks'/'Errors' are not listed in the major catalogues, only varieties. But going by the prices for those, the price I quoted [and have seen on occasion] is just about correct. I paid $5 for my shift about two years ago.

Nice stamps everyone. If anyone else has a shifted centre, please post it here.
