A few years ago I obtained a full set of the reprint pages of the old Scott International album. 1840-1940. I have the version on specialty pages, housed in 18 3-ring binders. It has turned out to have been more than I can handle and I am thinking of selling the set.
I am thinking of selling just the pages, retaining some binders for my own use and selling those I do not need. Best estimate is that the pages alone would weigh over 60 pounds and would need to be split into four boxes, possibly more.
Has anyone ever sold a large bulky lot like this and if so what shipping did you use? I did ask a local dealer if he knew of anyone interested, offering him a % and he seemed interested. That would be the best solution. Comments?

As far as USPS goes, the cheapest way to send heavy objects seems to be Priority Flat Rate boxes. Though I believe the weight limit is 20lbs. each box. You might double check that part. I've sold magazines by year and shipped them that way. |

Perhaps others can weigh in on USPS Media mail, the least expensive method of shipping. I think if you only send the blank pages they may qualify.
Frankly the USPS criteria for media mail has always been a bit confusing to me. When I talk to various USPS people I often get differing feedback.
I think that albums with stamps in them do not qualify. But if it is just the pages, without the binders, would this not fall under 'printed matter'? Don |

If your shipping in weight UPS might be a better option. According to the DMM this would NOT qualify as Media Mail: http://pe.usps.gov/text/dmm300/273.htm#ep10623233.1 Books, including books issued to supplement other books, of at least eight printed pages, consisting wholly of reading matter or scholarly bibliography, or reading matter with incidental blank spaces for notations and containing no advertising matter other than incidental announcements of books. Advertising includes paid advertising and the publishers' own advertising in display, classified, or editorial style. |

Thanks to all responding. I did a rough estimate of what it'd cost to ship UPS and using their website and a fictitious zip in CA (I live in NE) was astounded to get a quote of around $150! That'd b six boxes. It'd make more sense to keep the damn things. Possibly I messed up somehow. I plan to remove the stamps if possible. |

Priority mail for a 70lb package is right at $100. There's a "retail ground" option for about $83. If you could fit them all in 3 large flat rate boxes, you'd be under $60. |

No way would they go in three boxes. Even the large ones. I don't think I am communicating how massive this lot is. 18 Scott specialty binders, all full. Talking at least eight boxes probably and not the large Priority boxes. I probably need to get a better idea of weight and bulk then call UPS and see what they can do. Additional note, I found a listing on ebay very similar to what I'd be selling: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Huge-Scott-...AOSwZQRYcPduThis seller is asking $150 shipping. I perhaps need to stop worrying about the lot not selling because of high shipping costs. anyone buying a large bulky lot ought to accept that as part of the deal. |

STAMP1962 -----That lot is way overpriced . The 20,000 stamps are valued at 1 cent each from what they show in the scan ,so that's $200.00 for the stamps . Some of the binders have dark blue tape over the edges ,so that puts them around $20.00 per binder .The wording doesn't tell you the pages are complete or from one set ,maybe some pages/countries were pulled out . The whole lot would sell for less than $1,000 at public auction ,which I think this owner purchased and then taped up the binders and maybe clean up the collection with extra stamps. Not worth it . |

I think this is sadly a case where the shipping costs almost as much the album pages are worth on the secondary market. This type of item is probably best shipped UPS Ground or sold locally via Craigslist. |

I linked to that lot in order to give some idea of how my items look and to give an idea how large a lot we are talking here. I am not considering bidding on that lot. I agree it is waaaay overpriced. Realistically, I think this would bring perhaps $500 on ebay. Rather than ask $150 or so for shipping maybe I could offer free shipping with a buy it now for $6-700. Might be worth a try. |

I bought my set on ebay and I think it was about $650 inclusive of shipping with UPS. It only had 13 jumbo Scott binders. It is the old story if someone wants it, they will pay the postage. I just bought the 2016 - 6 volume Stanley Gibbons world stamp catalogs and shipping was $112 My bunch of Minkus albums, shipping was $182 If people want something, they fully realize shipping is not cheap. |

I doubt anyone is still following this topic but FWIW I sold my set locally for $500. I mentioned that I was considering selling it to a local dealer and he set me up with a buyer, got cash. No shipping or ebay fees. There is a reason you seldom see these offered on ebay. |
