I went with time. Angore, a few posts above, stated the dilemma well. It's not just the time moving stamps around, making time to learn more about your interests and pursuits can be equally difficult.
My wife isn't interested in stamps, but she knows philately does me good emotionally, so she's totally cool with it. I'm luckier than I probably deserve. |

My lovely wife, while she may mock, grumble, rolls her eyes, sigh, exclaim 'Oh my gawd!', and generally poo poo my hobby, is probably my biggest enabler. I think she's actually glad I have an interest that keeps me off the streets. She's a teacher, and has just started a well deserved sabbatical for the next semester, which means that my stamp budget has been axed.
For now.
There are ways....bwaa haa haa!

I have gone for time as well. Hopefully in a couple of years, once retired, that will be less of a problem! Money would have come second if it was multi-choice. Always more stamps, supplies and catalogues needed! And like jamesw and PekingDuckDog, I am fortunate in that my wife indulges the hobby and sees it's 'chill-out' benefits for me. DavidR |

My wife is supportive of my collecting...whether it be stamps, books, music etc. I don't have a specific hindrance per se....money is really not an issue but I do not see myself spending $100 or more on one stamp...I can think of better ways of spending $100. I enjoy acquiring stamps for my modest collection...but there is a limit to how much money I am willing to invest in the endeavour...fortunately there are still a lot of stamps out there in my price range. |

I voted money because my main thrill in stamp collecting is shopping on the net for them. It's rare but my ecstasy is when I fight against other bidders to get what I want meaning snipping. One time I got a lot at less than 1 second left. My bid was enter at the same time the auction end and was accepted. Sometime I miss my shot and loose the auction. Beside having a thrill shopping of course I spend time relaxing, learning with my stamps. Daniel |

For me it is time, with other interests a close second. Especially lately working on average 45-50 hour weeks as a manager in a retail business, money isn't so much the issue for me (I'm not making millions but I have some disposable income) so much as less free time to follow my outside interests - stamps, music, gaming etc. My partner of 23 years, though, has no problems with my hobby. It "keeps me out of his hair" when he is watching movies on Netflix etc Unfortunately my next week of vacation isn't until late April |

For me, lack of space (stamps sprawling across at least two rooms, crashing into my books and my collection of cigarette cards) is the main problem, But it's also made me think about what I really want to keep, rather than amassing everything. I'm finding it quite liberating getting rid of whole blocs of countries - well, preparing to get rid of them ... |
