It's difficult to identify these stamps without seeing them against the light (is there mesh or not?), without measuring the thickness of paper, etc.
I would say that this stamp is, most probably, from 1870 issue (Scott No. 34, valued @ $67.50 used); year on the postmark starts with "7", which supports my observation. But in this deplorable condition it's worth nothing.
in these interney days and with fewer collectors than ever, most areas have much more material available than there are collectors for it.
i see no reason to settle for defective stamps unless they're extremely expensive/rare.. and even then, I would personally prefer an empty spot in my album than settle for spacefillers.
this is a personal thing, and a stamp like this I would place in my trashbin - because I see no reason for it to keep circulating amongst collectors.
i would personally really like to see the spacefiller market disappear and the average condition market grow a little more.
Hi. Interesting stamp because it has many plate flaws.I can't quiet make out the control figure on the back if it is a double impression or not. (needs a better photo),,,,otherwise for the flaws
Thank you all. When you started saying it's worth 67$ I got worried, but then you asured me it's worthless and I relaxed - not used to have valueable stamps in my collection. Yes, it will serve as space filler, no, I'm not going to buy it in good condition. With the size of my collection I rather buy more cheaper stamps that I'm missing, then spend such amount on a single moderate looking stamp. As for the back - I understand that it's a control number, 5, and there were 2 series, with numbers at sizes 7 and 8 milimeters.
There is a big market for damaged and defective stamps ever since ebay started . I am always surprised at some of the prices these wounded warriors get in the market place .
