Opinion:
Goodness knows what secrets your lot hides, just as a random indication of auctions I visit, I suggest 4 or 5 pages of similar KG5's would fetch $35- $80 US Pre decimal Australia is a very active market, but the thought of getting say $1000's I think would be out of the question.
I have seen in the past, Argentine Zeppelin Airs, with a CV of circa $800 sell for below $100. You could spend a whole heap of time, and be disappointed, or you may find a gem,

I agree with rod222 .
If you take up the KGV challenge you'll need some good specialist catalogues & lots of spare time .Shades can be worth good money also but need expert certificates which also cost. |

Glad you chipped in, Al. Quoting values is like walking on egg shells, but the poster in this instance, seemed to want best advice.

Thanks to you all. I'm in a quandry. Acquiring enough understanding to evaluate these with any degree of accuracy would seem to be a huge commitment and not guaranteed to succeed. I appreciate the difficulty of valuing stuff like this from the vintage watch and book markets, which I do understand to a degree. Maybe I'll start by photographing them in bulk with a 15mp camera. Even that's a big job if I want to avoid scrambling them and being unable to identify individual stamps. Then perhaps I can induce someone to scrutinise them for further, closer investigation on the basis of a commission when sold. No-one has mentioned the auction houses, which I take to indicate scepticism? Roy |

Auction house doesn't ID them for you ,They'll lot them as a single bulk lot with estimate because of time taken to do so. Even most dealers charge per hour to sort wheat from chaff.

Here is a link to a Grosvenor auction.Interesting to say the least. The best way is starting from the 1914-1915 1 penny red stamps. If they are sorted already; move them out and place them in another temporary album.Making sure not lossing the individual annotations. You can re-copy them.Select say 5 of them ,photo them with their individual charecteristics written down below or above. The stamps that don't have any known charecteristics other than the colour variations ;seperate them from the stamps that have some sort of pane, die flaw I.D..Post these 5 stamps... http://www.grosvenorauctions.com/dy...Value&page=2 |

Hi Horologic,
This is a very good detailed collection as per your scans and I could only imaging what the rest has to offer.
do you have a auction house near by?

As a start (not ignoring perf12's suggestions, just cpmpleting what I already started) I have scanned all the pages and created a PDF. At the moment this is still 42Mb so I'm experimenting with downsizing. There are stamp auctions advertised locally (W. Sussex) but they don't look that promising as far as I can tell from the limited information available. I have mailed one of them with a link to this thread. Not sure if I can post a large file (50+ page PDF) here? Roy |

There's Toovey's near Worthing, which I've bought cards from, but wouldn't especially recommend, as it's difficult to get to (we got lost on two occasions, although there are some nice village pubs nearby as compensation) and, I suspect, doesn't have a very wide coverage in terms of potential buyers. https://www.tooveys.comMight I suggest that, instead, you e-mail Somerset Stamp Auctions, and see what they say? http://www.somersetstampauctions.com |

Roy, PDF is not a good solution. If you like, I would be willing to host the high resolution images for you on my site, You can then just link the address in the thread and have the images displayed here. If you would like to do this, let me know and I will contact you offsite and you can just email me the images. Don |

Hi Don well, that's a very kind offer, thank you. If you'd like to email me I'll send you the batch of jpegs (which amount to about 70mb) as a .zip via a file transfer site. Some pages have the stamps unsorted in folds but if anyone is sufficiently interested I could spend time digging them out and scanning them in detail. Systematically scanning everything at optimum size is a big job. Roy |
