So refreshing to see a collection that has been worked on for some time before it became your collection.

You have the best of encouragement and direction info.

This will turn into an amazing collection once it is housed properly and bring out its true value.

Its biggest value is to you the collector. Most lots like yours are no longer available. That era of collectors have passed sadly.

There is a lot of trash, over priced KGV lot in auction houses these days.

Enjoy! Always Happy Stamping.

Here are a few more pages (there are about 50 in total.) I should point out that I am not a stamp collector... yet. I simply want to evaluate this lot so that they can be sold. Which may sound criminal to you folks. The whole experience is a fascinating insight into philately though - the minute variations exceed anything I'd previously imagined.

Al, I'll do this a bit later today.
Roy
Could you enlighten me as to the meaning of "shades" in this context?
Here are some CUs of the stamps on P1. I cropped the last two but as there's no execute crop button they aren't cropped. I'll double click if there's a next time.

The penny reds come in many different shades (colour tones)because the ink formula changed over the years when supplies became hard to acquire due to war etc .
Some are very collectable but requires an expert eye to id them (that I don't have) salmon eosin G27 & pink eosin G27A are the most expensive at $2250 & $2500.
they were printed Nov to Dec 1917 ,Most better shades require an expert certificate to make them saleable ,Shades range from G10 up to G78 .

P.S. the top two reds you posted are known as Saddle on Emu variety from plate 1 position 1/36 (white patch on emu's back.

Thanks yet again? Fascinating.
From a previous life in print media I'd have to say that defining printed colours accurately is, to put it mildly, difficult unless one is working with fully specified colours such as Pantone or RGB/CMYK values. Do these stamps get evaluated using a colorimeter? Or just the expert eye? Clearly a judgement made on the basis of a computer screen is completely meaningless.
The original collector appears to have possessed a fair degree of expertise. He has annotated the back of many of the stamps with minute pencil observations. One assumes that he has mounted stamps in groups which have some common features. Would exhibiting these two attributes in ebay auctions enhance their saleability? And is ebay regarded as a valuable too for selling stamps o this kind?
Roy

Ouch!
The UK site has small quantities at substantially higher prices pro rata.

Not that there seem to be any bidding wars going on!

Hi Perf
how much detail do you need? Individual stamps?
How about four up?
Ah, I see (?) just the bottom line in this shot?
