Anyone able to identify these? The one with the "Chinese Mail" baffles me. I can find overprints for "China" in the Scott Catalog but not "Chinese Mail". The other one with "DP" is a mystery to me also. Thanks in advance!

The D P is for Daily Press, a private overprint by the Hong Kong Daily Press.

Check no.10 below:

Guess:
"Chinese Mail"
Commercial Overprint (Theft protection)
Chinese Mail (Newspaper business)

Hi; The DP overprints look wrong. The settings are to narrow and the letters are with serifs. Thoughts?

Thoughts?

Being a commercial opt, and early one at that,
Perhaps the opt was not letterpress, and merely a rubber / steel handstamp
struck individually, and with several hammers of varying designs?

Great Link.

Perhaps member Canyoneer, should write the webmaster, and post response?

I like the phrase "Security markings" much better than "Theft prevention" which I have used for years.
