Poll Question:
Folks, I am developing a new 'US Stamp Mount Finder' for Stamp Smarter. It is built upon a database and the user interface is shaping up to look something like this… As you can see, I currently have fields for ShowGuard, Scott. Prinz, Lighthouse, and Hawid mounts. But there are also other, lesser known, mount including Kenmore, Mystic, and UniSafe. Adding a manufacturer to the database for every catalog number is not a trivial task so I would like to better understand which mount manufacturers folks use the most. The tool should be ready in the next few weeks. There is also "Typical Album Block Dimensions" listed for each stamp. This is useful if you are seeking to have a mount that covers the entire preprinted block on many album pages. It is also useful for those designing and laying out your own album pages. Anyone can reply to this poll, even if you do not collect/mount US stamps. The database may grow to include other countries in the future. If you select Other* please post in this thread the name of the manufacturer you use. All feedback is greatly appreciated and of course will help make this a more useful resource for all hobbyists. Which mount manufacturer do you most often use?

I clicked Hawid as my preferred. (I look for "Open top" mounts clear or black)
I emailed all Australian dealers for budget or not wanted stocks of mounts. I am happy to use second hand.
FYI I received a large stock of "Davo" mounts, which are similar to Hawid, Unsure if they are still in production, but I would have made a second click in your choices.

I chose Hawid too, although for me, and, I suspect, others, what I actually buy is "Hawid-type". I'm afraid I throw Showgard-style mounts away unless they're tall enough to cut into two open-top mounts. |

I do likewise, happy to buy budget large Showguard and cut into 2. As a WW collector, the open top allows for easy stamp swaps, when mounting better examples. Fine if you are using page covers, without them stamps will move. |

Thanks Jerry.
I will also add cross reference tool. Entering in one manufacturer will return the equivalent sizes for the other manufacturers. Don |

Mystic also sells mounts. Davo makes self-adhesive mounts now. And Washington Press also has "pocket" mounts, that are closed on 3 sides and open on the top. |

I would also point out, that all Scott mounts are just Prinz mounts rebranded. And all the Showgard mounts are Schaufix rebranded. Schaufix mounts are made by Hawid. That may help cutting down on number of brands listed.
EDIT: I think Mystic mounts are made by Davo. |

Is the stamp mount finder finnished 51studerbaker would be interested in that, how easy would it be to adapt it to other countries. Hello angore is it possibel to get a copy of that spreadsheet. Diskworld cinerellas site has a lot of tools for the collector of Their stamps they have a stamp mount list that you can downlod., my problem is I dont know the sizes of stamps so it is difficult to make up albums unless there is a list or site im not aware of that has this information. |

Thanks Don. I buy Uni-Safe strips (blck or white) depending on the prices I find in Quebec Province where I know a few dealers. Would not use your program as my software already calculates the size of my mounts needed but it s great !! René |

I am really excited for this new tool. I primarily collect postal history. When I expand my limited stamp collection, trying to figure out which mounts I need, it is a little bit of reinventing the wheel each time. This will make things very helpful for people like me, or those starting or expanding. Keep up the good work! |
