I need a new desk lamp for my stamp desk, and am thinking of buying an Ott Light. Any comments? Especially, any down side? Anything dangerous to using one?
Thanks!
Don

I have been using the OttLite 31700R 13-watt HD SlimLine Task Lamp for a couple of years for various hobbies and have been very happy with it.

I moved your question to the Supply category. We talk a lot about lights and magnifiers here. Try searching this forum. |

Don, you might also want to google this. I read a whole slew of good reviews on this product.

I have one on my desk for when viewing color is important. There are other brands of full-spectrum lights that might be less expensive, but I have found mine to be a useful tool. |

I highly recommend the Ott Lights for color correctness. If small differences in color really matter to you, then you definitely need a proper light, and these work well. |

I can also recommend the Ott light. I have one for my desk and a floor model. Both work great. Only drawback I can see is that they are rather expensive. If you have a Joanns craft store locally, they always seem to have them on sale for some reason. |

I got a couple small desk Ott Lights at Sam's Club for about $20 each and I highly recommend them. I have one on each corner of my desk and for a time, I had one Ott Light and one with a regular LED bulb. The difference was pretty stark - one doesn't realize the "color" of the ambient lighting in our homes until you see the contrast with full spectrum lighting. It was seeing the difference that made me go back to Sam's Club and buy another one before they were gone. |

Are the recommendations for the fluorescent or the LED bulb models? Does anyone have feedback for how long the bulbs have held their color correctness?
I had looked at the Ott website, they have a large amount of different models and light bulb types but little technical data. I found some competitive analysis but of course this painted the Ott lights as being very poor and their more expensive solutions as ideal.
However it is common for consumer devices use whatever off-shore bulbs are cheapest; this often changes from shipment to shipment. Has anyone replaced a bulb and noticed the bulb type/manufacturer being used? Don |

I've had mine for about 3 years and have not replaced the florescent tube yet. I have not notice any drift in color (though I probably would not have.) I just purchase a second light and the new and the old seem to be the same colorwise. |
