I was going through a box lot and found a lot of these, probably $200 marked price. What are these called? I am guessing the price marked is the face value of the enclosed stamps? What is a reasonable resale value?

Thanks

Ken

Unless you have any of the following scans of varieties, or have an ultraviolet lamp to determine if several of the issues have the harder to find fluorescent papers, these stamps are cataloged at 2-3 times face value.

913b - $0.60 Bluenose
- triple print of reddish brown inscriptions $5.00

960i - $0.30 Nova Scotia
- dent in car door $5.00

966i - $0.30 Manitoba
- log in snow $5.00

968ii $0.30 Royal Canadian Henley Regatta
- stroke above "n"
- on Dull paper - $5.00
- on Fluorescent paper - $12.00

907iv Non-denominated "A" $0.30 - coil
- inverted hook tag $100.00

You asked for "resale value." Limited, though some people do collect these packs as I guess they like unopened stamps. They're worth their weight in postage.

I expected that, I was wondering what % of Face value Canada sells for. If it was US I would expect about 50% of face value.

Sometimes these Canada Post year sets contain varieties that are not found elsewhere.

Just noticed that what you have there is actually a 1982 Semi-Annual Pack which cats for $13.30 (Face value) in Unitrade. These are catalogued separately from the Annual Packs. Annual packs are 8 1/2 x 11 size. The smaller ones are either semi-annual or quarterly packs and were sold at face value at the Post Office when they were released.

That's why I use my stock of old stamps (mostly 170s and 1980s) as postage when I sell on ebay. They are worth more that way.

jimjung - the later (expensive!) annual collections sell usually at auction for 50% face - and sometimes less in bulk due to their high shipping costs. I've personally bought maybe 25 or so in the last 5 years - stripped the stamps - and given the books away.

What makes the 1974 annual collection so dear? Was the production run that small? Neil.
