I am trying to find a value for this cover. Just for a first day cover I am stumped. But I think this collectors history will add some value as well.

He exhibited in 1964 at NAPEX. and at others he won in 1968;
In the topical section, 1st award
went to Mr. Czerna C. Lafler of El
Cajon, Calif. for his collection of
"Eagles on Stamps."

He also composed:
The Border Patrol March, a ceremonial musical piece nearly as old as the U.S. Border Patrol itself, was composed and arranged by two U.S. Army Officers in Plattsburgh, N.Y. The duo, George Friedrick Briegel (1890-1968) and Czerna Carl Lafler (1891-1973), were prolific composers of musical marches throughout both World Wars.

I would not think that this collector's name would add any value to his collection. A person needs to be exceptionally famous as in the average person on the street knowing the name for there to be any halo effect. Perhaps if there is a cover that features one of his best songs where he jotted down the lyrics and music in his own handwriting that might generate a bit of extra value. As for the first day cover value, FDCs of most countries other than the very heavily collected countries such as the US or Britain or France or such do not seem to have much additional value above the value of the stamp or the cover itself if it is of particular historical interest such as being a first flight or going by some unusual conveyance over a long distance. There is another obstacle in the value of this particular cover in that the cancellation is indistinct and the cover itself has some condition issues including the staining/toning of the stamp and the corner of the envelope, the bumped and worn edges of the envelope and the hinge remnants on the back, the torn off edge of the flap, etc. While I think this is interesting, I would not get my hopes up too high that it would bring much in a sale or auction.

Thanks! I talked to a member of the Panama postal historical society and he was able to give me so added insight to this cover.
