I am new to the Scott Specialized Catalogue of US Stamps and was looking through the 2017 edition when I noticed the entry for Scott #1076 seems to be missing the Issue Name, in this case "Fifth International Philatelic Exhibition".

I find it funny that this happened for an issue regarding philately AND only stamp collectors would notice this omission. As I heard on the Stamp Show Here Today podcast "the collecting gene is not far from the OCD gene."

Please correct me if I'm wrong :)

If you look at the bottom of the previous column, you'll see the heading "Fifth International Philatelic Exhibition Issues" ( plural). I believe that was meant to cover both the souvenir sheet as well as the stamp #1076.

Welcome to the forum BTW.

Pascoe, I see what you mean. You can most likely reach the Scott people and let them know about this. You can also notify Linn,s Stamp News.

Oracle is correct; this is not an error. This is how Scott formats the situation of multiple stamps commemorating a single subject in the Scott Specialized - one issue name covers all the stamps in the issue.

Hi pascoe

In other cases Scott uses the "look back" feature. For instance, a catalog listing may not have the perf, watermark or printing type listed. In this case one has to go backwards in the listing to the last listed perf, watermark or printing type.

Scott has been doing this for years. The catalogs are huge as is. If they printed the information for every listing the catalogs would be much bigger then they are now.
