Hi All, As I get into this stamp collecting stuff I see that I really need to get a UV light in order to distinguish between the various stamp papers and maybe glues too?

My questions:
- What's the best UV light to get that's not too expensive, understanding that I am novice.
- Is there a good web-site with info about how to use the light properly and interpret the results?

Thanks!

Short wave to detect tagging and long wave for papers. There are a couple of links to site here.

There are several more important uses of long wave UV light. In some cases, stamp color can only be determined by its use. Michel catalogs, for example, will indicate these varieties in their listings with a "sunshine" icon followed by a color name, as seen under long wave UV light.

Also, stamp repairs will become evident when viewed under long wave UV light, because of the differing papers and glues used in the work.

I have several of the Lighthouse brand and a Raychem unit. They work but the smaller battery units require a darker room to really be effective.
