Hi All, As I get into this stamp collecting stuff I see that I really need to get a UV light in order to distinguish between the various stamp papers and maybe glues too?
My questions: - What's the best UV light to get that's not too expensive, understanding that I am novice. - Is there a good web-site with info about how to use the light properly and interpret the results?
Where did you read that...paper types and glue? Do a google or search here on their use. There are other threads about types and their intended us9s). John
There are several more important uses of long wave UV light. In some cases, stamp color can only be determined by its use. Michel catalogs, for example, will indicate these varieties in their listings with a "sunshine" icon followed by a color name, as seen under long wave UV light.
Also, stamp repairs will become evident when viewed under long wave UV light, because of the differing papers and glues used in the work.
