On ebay right now there is an "Interesting US Internal Revenue item," item number 122467811277. Though it looks maybe like an Internal Revenue stamp facsimile, it is just a trimmed portion of an insurance policy that shows a) where the revenue stamp goes, and b) which denomination of stamp goes there. Most collectors rarely see these types of things, because, well, the revenue stamp covers it. At least the seller isn't asking a fortune for it. Jim http://www.ebay.com/itm/Interesting...AOSwdjNZAomA

Still, it would be an interesting addition to a collection. Knowing this is what it is, perhaps someone has an entire policy with one. Now THAT would be a great piece to add to one's collection |

Probably a lot of people do. As was pointed out above, it is covered by the stamp. |

Apparently more than one person thinks that this scrap of paper is worth at least five dollars. Go figure. Kinda curious what the final bid will be in a few days. Jim |

This was done by the insurance company so the agents or clerks would pay the proper tax on the policy. The rates indicate that this is a casualty insurance policy, as opposed to a life insurance policy (the rates for life insurance were different and based on the face value, not the premium). |

Well, it might be worth a lot more than that...provided, of course, if the next winning lottery numbers (and date), are on the reverse side |

For those looking at this post a few months from now when ebay has pulled the listing, 1Typesetter is referring to a seller who sold this: for $22.00 on May 2, 2017. This is a trimmed portion of a full label, some of which are shown in full here: https://goscf.com/t/53621&whichpage=2and elsewhere on this board. For $22, you could get any number of complete copies of the various varieties of this label, in sound, very fine condition. They are not that scarce. Apparently some collectors are buying their stamps by the percentage of wholeness? Like buying a new car, one tire or spark plug at a time? Weird. Jim |

Here's an image of a fire insurance policy taken from Eric Jackson's current inventory. Under the 10˘ adhesive is the relevant thing that has been the subject of this thread on offerings on ebay. |

Thanks for posting the image, Ron. Gorgeous bicolor document with lovely engraving and the subject of this thread not fully covered by the stamp, and a nice red handstamp cancel to boot... so I bought it. |
