A couple comments about these two narcotic stamps.

Scott does a pretty good job describing and illustrating these two types of overprints.

They are really not that hard to tell apart, at least for most. One is handstamped, while the other is printed.

The item shown above seems like a great discounted price being generously offered by the seller due to the horrific fault(s), if it was correctly identified. But since it's actually a RJA41 being offered at half catalog, it's not quite as good a deal.

The documentary stamps upon which these overprints are applied generally come well centered. It is difficult to understand why a dealer would ask nearly five times the Scott catalog value for a copy that is nowhere close to "superb gem" centering.

Each to his own I guess, but this redefining of centering terminology to suit a personal whim seems almost criminal in intent.

Just some things to watch out for in the great chaos that is ebay.

Jim

Because the second example is from Bill Langs, a dealer for whom the word "bargain" never really applies. And since descriptions like "superb" and "rare" are in the eyes of the beholder........................
