Hello, normally I only collect the US older stamps especially because I got many of them in a duplicates album and our old family album. But in this family album there were also some other countries, though mainly US. I checked many of them and got good information, as I probably will sell those countries I don't collect. But for some stamps it's difficult for me to see if they are common or not. If some stamps are really interesting and rare, I will keep them. So in this thread I will show them. I will start now with Russia and the other countries later. These Russian stamps look very similar, and I learned already that there are fine differences. Are there any where I should look closer or perhaps also you experts would need a better scan?

Stamperix, you should first of all try to take out the Finnish ones. I see at least three of them, the green one that is used in Helsinki the last blue one and the red one all on the last row. There may be more - hard to tell on the small pictures. Maybe you can start by going to http://stampworld.com or another online catalog? Peter |

The design for the 10 K blue/brown starts from the earliest russian issue in 1857 (imperfs) all the way to 1875. There are watermarks, different perfs and horizontal and vertically laid papers used to determine which stamp # it can be. There are different populations between this design and some are common others are rarer. |

The 3k black/green is from the 1864 all the way to 1875, pretty much the same as I described above for the 10K except this design can be wmk or no wmk.
Check out this link it can be helpful to identify your particular stamps.
Pretty much get out your perf gauge, wmk tray and fluid and get busy! Some of these can be valuable.
Good luck!

thank you both for your answers and first ideas as well as for the link. Well, I hoped that those stamps would be easier than the old US stamps :), and an expert eye could see from the scan which could be rare of those. BUt I understood (again) that it's not that easy. I will look at the link and look for perf and watermark. And let you know. |

Hello again, I checked the Russian stamps (above) with the given link and found that all of my stamps are the common ones. I just wondered why at StampWorld there is no difference for the thickness of the paper while in a Michel catalogue there is for the old Russian stamps. Well, as said I show the next countries here. Again I would like to know if they are all common or not. I know now the StampWorld link :), but I would like to show the stamps here anyway, and so opinions by anybody are very welcome. At least I hope the scan is nice to look at for baltic collectors. |

Stamperix, stampworld is a Dutch website where you can buy stamps. They are just the basic stamps, no varieties shown. Just like most catalogs - they do not go into paper types usually. You will need a specialized catalog for that,

Salut et merci,
yes, I searched a bit and found as well that this cancel is a wagon-post cancel. But I think you have more information as I didn't find anything about the 11 (St Petersburg?) and the value of the stamp. Did you find more?
Anybody some opinions about my baltic stamps? |

Thank you. So it's like you said before, it's interesting to have such a stamp from a train. I am sure I will keep this stamp, although I don't collect Russia. as I suppose that the Baltic stamps I showed were mostly common, I continue here with the next stamps, from Denmark, France, Belgium and Luxembourg. How about them, is there also one with a nice story or something worth to keep better than selling too cheap? (as said above I want to give away or sell those countries I don't collect to improve my US collection, but the really interesting stamps I would like to keep though. I already made piles of stamps to sell but the ones I show here I am not sure about) |

danish stamp on previous picture, 2nd row last stamp, imperf 1854 2skilling.. looks to be in ok condition, usually sell at between $7-12, yours most likely at around $5 because it's slightly narrow cut in northeast. |

The Lux 5 Fr orange has a CV of £160 in SG Stamps of the World 2010, so well worth further investigation. The Belgian Leopold 2 Fr lilac is catalogued at around £30, so ditto. |
