The Scott Specialized lists the two cent Liberty on blue paper as existing imperforate, and a used pair currently catalogs $350. Well, at least there is no column for unused copies for this particular issue.

My question is though, as far as I am aware, this issue was only used on checks, which were taxed at the rate of two cents each.

I can see that some clerk somewhere might have saved a mint pair (or larger), if they noticed that the stamps were without perforations, or were imperf. horizontally, etc.

But how could a used imperforate pair exist, if they were used one at a time on each check?

See below for an example of a single imperf. copy tied on a check.

Jim

There could be a used pair if a large multiple was pre-cancelled before using them and the pair was never used, a common occurrence. At this point those stamps might or might not still have gum.
