Hi all, I recently received a large stamp collection from my Father in law. I'm not a stamp collector myself but I find them quite interesting. I found these old Aussie ones, so I thought I would share them with you :-))

Are you taking the collection with the idea of expanding it? This group is just the tip of the iceberg for Australian States issues; lots of possibilities.

Hi PinKMisT72

The dark green NSW diadem stamp (1854) can be worth up to $200, and the stamp beside it shows Sydney as it was in 1854, both very collectable, the little brown stamp just under it that has an image of Captain Cook was part of the 1888 Centennial and was part of a larger set including the kangaroo and emu.

The cancellations may be more interesting to some collectors than the stamp itself, although there are some quite interesting stamps on that page, many are common.

I assume by the look of the album the stamps are hinged. Is there any way you could show other stamps that are Australian, and if your Father-in-Law has any New Zealand stamps.

Rob

A nice one, I think "used" but just a guess.

This one I lost on.
I had to buy blind, but couldn't let it go for the price,
Alas! it is as I guessed, an "altered" perf issue (perf holes top right corner)

If you closely at the dark green NSW 5p you can see perf remainders so it has been trimmed unfortunately.

It was quite normal in the Victorian era to trim stamps - the image, after all, was the scrap that was being kept. Of course, there are also deliberate attempts to turn perforated into imperforated (and vice versa).
