My Australian Oddities

NSW state government departments used OS over NSW but stamps punctured for use in Commonwealth (Federal) departments in New South Wales were OS only.

As mentioned by 22crows, Type A (10 holes on the S) was used in 1902-3 then OS type B (8 holes on the S as per the Carrington stamp above) was used from 1903 right up to the 1905-1910 Crown over single line A, 1905 Crown/A in circle and 1907 Crown over double-lined A issues.

I don't have many Australian States, but I found this one in a Circuit Book. This is Scott 078c, as noted by "Missing period after S". Luckily the cancel was in the right place.

aka, Roberts Town, Robertstown (today)
Robertstown is a town in South Australia. The town is located 23 kilometres (14 mi) north of Eudunda, in the Regional Council of Goyder. At the 2006 census, Robertstown and the surrounding area had a population of 318. Robertstown is named for the John Roberts, the first postmaster in the area, who laid out the town in 1871. It was previously known as Emu Flats and Roberts Town.

That missing Period/Dot after the 'S' has my attention, think it's top right corner shows. What I can say......'I don't have a similar copy'.

This next one is a known variety, ACSC 2(B)e, "white scratch in Bight". Scott 2. What's nice is that it is right part of a Pair.

I thought this other area of the same stamp was interesting. Not noted in ACSC, but the bottom left border is slightly warped. Perhaps an early or later state?


The left stamp seems to be perfectly normal ... no scratches or other noteworthy items.

you also have what looks like a KR59(a)
Right frame, notch on inner side 12mm above bottom frame.

You also have BL24(b)
Bottom frame below "O" of One, bulge on outer side, 2mm to 2.5mm from Left frame.

Scan too poor to assess Left hand item.

Rod. I've probably asked in the past, but those latest codes are not ACSC, are they? What catalog / paper are they from? Also, the left stamp would be location 2L3. I can re-scan and show that one in better detail, but are there known varieties with that stamp? Thanks.

Edit: Just found an older note from you that lists, "Adams, Bell, Pope" Variety.

Cannot do it that way Steve,
the flaw leads to the stamp, not the other way around.

Update: No flaws on BL23 in our records.

Here is an oddity block from my collection that shows the children and calf floating in a cloud. On the bottom two stamps, the boy's head is even with the top frame line, and on the top two stamps, the boy's head is above the top frame line.
