Can anyone tell me the difference between a Type I and a type II stamp, Scott #332 in particular, although the type may be the same for all Swiss stamps, without a proper book, I can't check it out myself.
Thanks to all.

The difference in #332 types is a re-engraved design, not immediately detectable. Here it is:

Hi Sherlock, you are talking about Zumstein 301 and 301A, from the series "Technik und Landschaft" the 20 cent Stausee Grimsel.
The 301 and 301A have several differences, the easiest for me has always been the background of the value. On the 301 under the figures 20 are diagonal lines that do NOT go to the dam. On the 301A the diagonal lines go all the way to the dam.
There are other clear differences, like on the expensive 301 there are more lines between the hospice ( on the rock at left ) and the alps above it. Three lines on the 301, two on the 301A. I hope this helps?

It is not really worth expertizing - it is not that much of a rarity. If you can post a scan we can tell you what is is.

Peter, as I was getting ready to send a scan, I decided to improve the resolution, glad I did. I definitely have what looks to be 3 lines, however there is cross-hatching above the zero in the denomination. I'm now pretty sure it's the common Type II, but when I'm ready to turn all this over to my grandson, at least it will be numbered..hopefully correctly.!javascript:insertsmilie('')

Sherlock, I am convinced you are correct. You seem to have type II. I do not like to use the two/three lines definition, but even though your picture is still not very sharp I believe your third line is interrupted by the rock!
Scott does not mention this, but several of the other values in this series have plate varieties also!

Here's an earlier thread I started on this topic as I was confused. I have subsequently found a type II and it is noticeably clear when you find one.

Anthony, you are correct. And now we can see that there are different shades as well - some of these are noted in Zumstein. It is possible to make a specialized collection of this series because there are so many varieties and they are not too expensive and still found in circuit books.
