Nothing special about the stamp, but I found this interesting SON cancellation in my recent purchase. Doing a quick Wiki search showed that the Post Office in Mount Tambourine opened in March, 1924, but that it was renamed Mount Tamborine in 1926. So, this cancellation has to be somewhat rare, don't you think? Any other examples from that time?

Is there a known use date range for this spelling?

Would also be good to know what day in March of 24 did the office open? Wasn't the 20th by chance?

Caveat:
I just meddle around the edges of Queensland philately.
From what I can see / understand, you may have a new EKU earliest known usage.
I see EKU as 8th July 1924 ? then again April 1924 ?
You'll need to get confirmation from a specialist.

I'll post my sundry

Great postmark find.

Mt Tamborine QLD is in my backyard.

1st time I went there was 39 years ago as a visitor from my home town Sydney with my wife.

It has always been the holiday retreat. You can see the ocean very clearly from the lookouts.

It is nicely cooler there in summer months. Great memories.

I downloaded the Queensland Steel Datestamps from the link that you provided and agree that we may have a new early date for a Mount Tambourine postmark by about 4 months. I emailed the secretary at the stamp club to see if they could provide more information. It is so nice being part of this community and the help everyone provides.

Thanks for the info Rod, and the vacation reference KGV. I emailed the Toowoomba Stamp Club, which sent back a reply including the same chart that Rod had copied from their website, with the further comment,
Quote:
This is the second date recorded in our book as per below, which shows Mount Tambourine as having only one date

So, I guess my cancellation is rated 4R also, which is "the rarest". I'll put it away with some further information, and onto the next hunt ...

Nice Stamp, lovely postmark.
Thanks Partime, for posting the results and advancing our knowledge.

...and thanks to the Postmaster, for being so accurate with the cancelling hammer.

As a followup to this interesting area, I just saw a news article about a 2-foot worm captured recently. Not something you would see in the States (unless you were sleeping and had a nightmare!)

BUMP! In my effort to find other interesting Queensland Steel Datestamps, I came upon this one for Mossman.

As you can see the datestamp is May 27, 1914. According to the second edition of the catalog (issued 2017), the earliest known date is December 18, 1914, with a rating of S, Scarce. So, we may have a new entry someday. I'll have to send a copy to them.

I definitely have to get some better catalogues. My ACSC for Kangaroos, dated 2017, doesn't mention this anywhere. Great news! And I will keep the group posted on the possible EKU.
