Can anyone tell me the name of the stamp series that the PO has been issuing the last several years featuring the Snowy Egret, Polar Bear, Bighorn Sheep,Hummingbird, etc? I read the name on the Postal Service web-site last year, but cannot recall it, nor can I find it again. Thanks for any help.

There was a booklet issued in 1981 that had Alaskan animals featured, is that the one you mean? Your photo is too small to see any detail.

I believe the series was called "flora and fauna".

I don't think that is a specific "series" or booklet. The dolphin and the polar bear are Scott #'s 4388 and 4387, in sheets (polar bear also in coils). The snowy egret is #3829-30, coil and booklet. And so on.

Part of a "topical" grouping by a collector?

As I said in the original post, I read an article on the USPS web-site about their annual series stamps, mainly about the "Legends of Hollywood" and "Black Heritage" series. At the end of the article they listed all of the series that had been issued thus far The list ended with the new stamps with a name like "American Wildlife" or something similar, but I don't recall the exact name and can not find the article again. Very frustrating.

blcjr: Yes I am designing a topical album of birds on US stamps. Here is the page I have those stamps on:

BKing, check with the Virtual Stamp Club. They have, among others the name as flora and fauna.

I think Scott's catalog will usually follow the USPS descriptions for "series" issues. For the Polar Bear and Dolphin they use the descriptor "WILDLIFE." On further research, the penguins stamp in your group is from the "Save Vanishing Species" series. The $0.86 Tufted Puffins stamp (#4737 or 4737A) is simply listed as "Tufted Puffins." So I'm just not seeing any single "series" by which these particular stamps are known by.

None of these are from the U.S.P.S. "flora and fauna" series depicted here:

I have them filed under the regular issues for that year.
These Egrets etc. weren't part of the Flora or Fauna series or the grouped like the Americana ones.

Peter & Basil, thanks for the replies. Like I said, I read an on-line article about series stamps that named them a series; although I now have doubts that it was on the USPS web-site. I so wish that I had bookmarked that article.

They are referred to as the American Wildlife Issues from what I have seen, but not all of those in your picture are included. The ones I have seen included are in the picture below.

Mstocky2,

I see "Wildlife" as the descriptor for some of these issues in Scott, but not all of them (e.g., Snowy Egret) and not "American Wildlife." Penguins are definitely not "American" wildlife.

Hi blcjr,

The reference for the picture I showed was from Hans van Gils, who has put together some awesome checklists of various US stamps. This may be his way of grouping. Either way his checklist is a great reference for all the varieties in the ones I posted.
