On my monitor the color looks like rose. However, check the perforations. According to Unitrade, #20 is 12 x 11.75 and 20a is 12 x 12.

The color does seem odd. Possibly a combination of the effect of the cancel and the background. The color looks strongest around the numerals and in the top and bottom tablets. The vignette itself is rather lightly inked, or faded? Gives the stamp a 3 toned effect.

It because scans give us a truer iamge that digital cameras normally take. The ambient light in the room when you took the photo affects the color we see in the photo. So does the background. Gray is the best background to view color against. Experiment, photograph different stamps (marco setting), with different lighting on different backgrounds. Much easier with a scanner.

These are the shades according to Whitworth, the expert on the Decimal Issue of 1859. There was only one order (the 1st printing) that was perf 12 x 11 3/4 and he states this colour to be Carmine Red. I believe the Claret and Deep Claret are the later shades with a bunch of the lighter Rose shades between the Early and late printings.

Here are three different shades. The 1st I have to say is Unitrade 20 because it is perf 12 11 3/4. The 2nd is one of the lighter shades and the last is the darker Claret Rose shade from the later printings. From the footenote I think that 20 covers all the shades except for the later darker shades 20a and 20i. Whitworth is saying there were only 50 sheets ordered for these late printings so these must be scarce. To me, the scanner seems to brighten the colour a little. When I look at the 20a stamp, it looks a little darker.

1. Perf 12 x 11 3/4 - Unitrade 20
2. Lighter Rose Shade - Unitrade 20
3. Darker Claret Shade - Unitrade 20a

that's really true , I agree with you area..you sound alot like a (guy) or (girl) who has different values.you should simply go your own direction (as I shall go mine)..i truly don't want any education from you..your just a person in the SC forums..who likes to de-value everybody else's stamps and covers..if you please? i've kindly asked you in the past? find a different person to stampede with your stamp education? I can send you my personal email address, and we can discuss the matter outside the forum? furthermore, our thoughts and minds just don't click. We have nothing in common, and I really don't care for your
opinions.good luck..being a stamp educator..goodbye..

edw_kim and area66,
I sit in dialysis, surrounded by people happy just to be alive, and I listen to you two argue with each other over trivial, inane things. Then I sit in chemo surrounded by people who only ask to stay alive for another day, and watch you two create yet another drama and troll each other. This puts into context just how stupid both of you are being with each other.

Area66, you contribute a lot to the community but STOP replying to any thread that edw_kim replies to.

edw_win, you haven't contributed anything to the community and have trolled others multiple times. The reason so few people are responding to your posts anymore is because you have not given anything back to the community after endless posts identifying stamps you assume are rare. You can give back with a donation, you can give back by trying to help others, you can give back by simply welcoming the new posters. It is not hard.

If either or you had given the community some consideration you would taken your issues with each other to private messages and not publically subjected the rest of the community to it.

I am a patient man but the next step is to remove both of you from the community. Next time the axe will fall, no questions asked.
Don
