I Have Been Unable To Identify This Stamp, Could Someone Please Help Me?

My husband went to an auction earlier this month and there were envelopes full of stamps in the bottom of one of the boxes he came home with. It has been fun to look through them all - but I am stumped by this one. I wondered if it was an overprint on a German stamp, but have been unable to find anything like it online. Has anyone seen something like this before? Thank you, I am looking forward to learning more!

msh60, welcome to the forum. What you have is not a postage stamp. If you could post either a sharper scan or tell us what it says on the top of the stamp?
OK, I think it says 'Gerichtskosten Marke'. It was a stamp to pay for the cost of a judge of the court. You may find similar ones for this and other German States if you Google the words above.

I think it says gerichtskosten which apparently is German for court costs. I thought it was an overprint stamp, so thanks much for letting me know it isn't a stamp at all! My original photo was better, but I guess the file size was too big, so I had to tweak it. I will try a straight scan next time instead of downloading a digital photo.

amtegericht is German for local court. I thought it was a city, part of a postmark.

You might not have a postage stamp, but nevertheless an intersting 'back of the book' item. Definitely a keeper in my opinion.

PREUSZEN is Prussia. It's a Court Revenue Stamp.
