Not at all. The only dumb questions are the ones that don't get asked. Stamps aren't as easy as some might think. Keep posting questions and don't ever feel embarrassed.

I'm familiar with old US coins, but stamps make me feel like a fool.

However, in my opinion, I don't think posting bad pictures of somebody else's collection does any good for you or the audience here. If that collector has questions, they can post them themselves, if they have a computer. I'm assuming not, but they do have other avenues to get information. Ways to get information is on this site, and you could pass it on to them. If you're just trying to get us to give you a price to buy the collection, that's bogus and that's why a lot of knowledgeable folks on the board won't bother to post.

First, why not apply some coin thinking to stamps? For both, condition rules all when it comes to pricing. A stamp missing a bit of a corner is quite like a clipped coin. Well-used US pennies are cheap as are used stamps denominated 1c and 2c. If you look at a mass of well-used Lincoln pennies in an album, are you going to care much if there are no 1909s or a 1914-D? Worn Barber nickels, Jefferson nickels or Mercury dimes? At least there's silver value in the latter. Otherwise do you really expect to find something rare in run-of-the-mill collections of minor coins? The concepts apply to stamps of lower denominations.

And does your US coin knowledge make you equally versed in worldwide coins? No, it doesn't, and I don't think you think so, either.

So you are here to learn, as we can see by the variety of topics you post on. But Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was your coin knowledge. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed; things will gradually click into place as time goes by.
