For the record, the fermented fruit juice stamps were distributed in panes of 110 with straight edges on all four sides. So 38 out of the 110 positions have a straight edge, slightly more than one out of three of the stamps have a straight edge.
My exhibit is 16 pages and devoted entirely to the taxation of fermented fruit juice (the 3.2% variety). Some pages have only regular wine stamps that we know were used on fruit juice, mostly ˝, 1, and 1 ˝˘ stamps plus copious examples of used fermented fruit juice stamps, with now quite a few not recorded by Nussmann and Woodworth. There are 86 used fermented fruit juice stamps (included date studies of MDC and H.B. Co., Hoffman Beverage Co.). Of those, 14 have straight edges. So I am beating the expected value. There are two more used, fully perforated FFJ stamps that await their addition to the exhibit.
Am I willing to pay a little more to replace a straight edge copy? Yes. Do I pass up a scarce cancel when it I encounter it with a straight edge? No.
