I would add it to an envelope of similar condition classic era material and throw it in the bottom of a lower end large lot, not counted. Let someone else deal with it. |

That's a left sheet margin copy I do believe, as such it's got to be quite useful for plating.
Also, a quick glance... could that be a New York exchange office CDS? If so that's rather uncommon on a 11.... |

I keep a whole, separate collection of "spacefillers" just for fun. No real commercial value, but what is the ultimate purpose of stamp collecting but enjoyment. Frankly, other than the damage to the resale value, this stamp still retains its "informational" value (plating, cancel, color, etc). |

This stamp would look a little better if it was soaked and pressed. Then after plating, the right side could be trimmed down a little. |

That is a NYC exchange marking, and it is highly likely that this stamp was once on a letter that went to, or through Britain or France, just based upon the mail routes of the day. |

It's pretty ugly... I agree. I'd soak and press it, perhaps as previously suggested keep it for plating and or a possible color study.
If all else fails a kid might be thrilled to find it at the kids table during a show.

I think the cancels probably match this cover - or are very close. Looks like a 7-bar grid, with the NYC exchange. This cover is from 1854. So what if its ugly, its still interesting.  |
