Hello,
Scott advises "No. 832h is the wet-printed first printing, but the shade essentially matches the red violet normally seen on No. 832c."
I can usually tell the difference between a wet and dry Liberty but there's really little color on the dollar Prexies to use. Is there a measureable paper shrinkage? Is the first printing found on only some plate numbers?
Thank you!
Steve

I don't have them in front of me, but I recall the gum looks very different between the wet and dry printings on the $1 Prexie.

Think you just answered my question. I've got only two purple & blacks and one red violet & black but the gum on all three is similar to that on unused 1926 regular issues, so the red violet & black becomes a candidate for a #832h, I reason. I also have three #832g's (certified to be OG) but on back is "smooth, colorless gum" - the catalog description for dry printed #832c. My task now is to buy some OG #832c's and look for the smooth, colorless gum in order to confirm that it's a "c" and not a "h". Thank you so much!

An update: Sent in some stamps to PSE and the red violet & black with the 1926 style gum did come back as a #832h. I don't own a current Scott specialized catalog but doubt very much that it is as scarce an item as this ebay listing suggests, haha! https://www.ebay.com/itm/832h-RARE-...AOSws8VZ3j4M

The wet printings design shrinks as compared to the dry printings! Very easy to tell by using the Precision Multi-Gauge.

Just curious if the bust position of Woodrow Wilson is of any interest?
I have 30 or so 832's, the position of the bust varies quite a bit. From his head almost being in UNITED STATES POSTAGE to his lapel almost being in his name at the bottom.

There looks to be a physical size difference in several of these stamps, as well as paper shade differences.

I didn't see anything on Stamp Smarter that discussed bust position, size or paper shading.

Thanks all.

I am pretty sure these high denomination stamps were printed in two stages. A shift of the medallion is pretty normal.

Thanks Peter. Figured it was pretty normal, but interestingly the shift up and down can be up to 2 mm between stamps.

And the color variations from a bright magenta to a deep dark purple/black. There's even a bright violet.

If the shift is large enough it is of interest to EFO collectors.

I am the person that purchased the 832h as offered on ebay and at a price not at the original asking price.

It may not turn out to be as scarce as it seems now as the 832g apparently is more common than originally suspected but as a U.S. collector and specializing in The Prexies and Liberty Series, I am delighted to add this to my collection

Do you have an 832, an 832c and an 832g you could scan side-by-side. I'm curious about the color shade differences.

Hello Caper123,

Here's a set. The colors L-R are purple, red violet, and bright magenta. Please don't try to use this as a color guide because the only way to see a true color is to look at the stamp in person with a magnifier. The 832g should strike the eye as "pink" and this one doesn't (to me, anyway). If buying on line I always make sure the seller has a no questions asked return policy.

Steve

p.s. The center stamp carries PSE cert 1336830; the right stamp has PF cert 541682.
