I have a few stamps that I would like to confirm Scott numbers for. A search on the SC site for "Expertise Service" yielded little help. I have never sent any stamps out for expertise service. These are not of extreme catalog value. Most are in the $50 - $300 range with only one, if it is what I think it is, appx. $1700. I looked at the forms for a couple of services and they are looking for a Scott number to start out with and that is my question. Can someone please comment on who I can use to just send in an undetermined Scott number stamp, (Iran, Russia, Spain and Greece) and receive back positive confirmation of number (sub number), color and condition? Thanks all for your assistance. Paul

Put up a few scans and someone could help you save money by not sending known forgeries in for expertizing. |

Thanks all for the responses. At one time or another all of the stamps in question have been posted by either myself or another collector. Despite the best efforts of SCF members there was not definitive conclusions due to scan/color inaccuracies, surface relief, possibilities of forgeries etc. Randy - I had totally forgotten about the APS service. I am a member and will utilize that service. Thanks for the reminder. |

I would be curious about what they recommend. Often it will be getting to having it expertized. They also need a decent image as well. |

Correction ----nobody can expertize off of a scan, they can I.D. a stamp off of a scan and many people can do that right here for free . Put up a decent scan and a opinion will follow from a few people here and you will save money and time . |

I have a question about a few stamps in my US collection, and that is whether or not they have a watermark.I have a terrible time reading watermarks, especially on used stamps. I know that they are not terribly vaiuable, so there is no point in seeking a cert.
Would APS do this for me?

If you are talking about WW stamps and not US I would send to APEX, not PF or PSE, but I would not send and stamps for expertization if catalog value less than a couple of hundred dollars |

If I recall APEX has a cheaper "Identification" alternative to expertising, which is what ddreisba seems to be seeking. I am fairly certain you don't have to be a Member either. |

Actually I don't think it wise to use the catalog value to determine whether a stamp is worth sending in to PF, etc. if that is your intention. Better to check the completed listings at auctions houses or even ebay instead - much more accurate. |
