Take a look at this variety on this Scott 246 NFLD stamp..The stamp on the right is normal type face...But the one on the left has the " AND" of Newfoundland definitely lower type face than the rest of the word...If anyone one else out there hs one..Please let me know. Robert

Looks like the stamps have different vertical perforations. Also, word "postage" on left side occurs at different height from the number "3" on left side on each different stamp. Right side stamp has thicker looking letters than left side stamp for "postage" and "three cents". Most likely different printings by different printers. |

Quote: Also, word "postage" on left side occurs at different height Good catch jogil. That is the clear difference between the two. Is John Becker's conclusion of 246 and 255 correct? (I don't have a catalog handy.) |

Partime: I agree with John Becker that they are 246 (left) and 255 (right). |

Yes, John is correct..But you are missing my point..The uneven type face on the left tamp..with the "AND" lower than the rest of the word..No big deal..Just pointed it out.

I'm confused, aren't they considered two different stamps (re-engraved a few years apart), hence the differing catalog numbers? Don |

Don...I was just showing another stamp to show people that the "Newfoundland" word is pretty straight on the bottom, but the Scott 246 had a weird"AND" on the stamp..Thats all.

Wert, With all due respect, I did not miss your point. The first thing is to identify the stamps correctly, which you had not done, *then* move forward with the discussion of the specific engraving qualities. Admittedly, the lettering is a bit irregular. |

These stamps are used and soaked off paper in water so something like wrinkling is possible with them. |
