Washington 2 Cent Coil, Triplet, 2cent2 But Perf 12??

hi all, tried theswedish for this cover, but it tells me to count perfs...its 12, but than this design does not have a perf 12??

i think it is a 492, perf10...but with my gauge it is not 100%

hoping for help, getting confused.

Can you make out the date on the cancel, also might be helpful to scan and let us see the reverse side of the cover in question.

This is a perf 10 coil. Several possibilities for the Scott #. Watermark, rotary/flat determination, etc. will determine which.

Looks like a perf 10 rotary press type III coil to me, so either Scott 455 or 492. Can't make out the date of the cancel (that could help, or even conclusively identify), but based on the shade I'd guess 492.

The cancel date is appears to be 1921. It is Boston's Grove Hall Station #21, which is one of the Boston Zone machine killers installed c1921, certainly no earlier.

IMO, Perf counting is a trick that, when properly used is a useful tool, but very frequently leads to confusion among beginning US collectors. I wish that collectors would learn to correctly use a perforation gauge and only then learn the limited application for perf counting.
