Hi,

The attached image is of a piece I found in an old collection.

I asked the APS Quick ID service to identify it and the result they sent back was, "This is a used cut square from postal stationery (envelope, letter card or wrapper). As a cut square it cannot be identified in the Higgins and Gage catalogs (for stationery issues)".

Does anyone know of a Cut Square reference for France that can help me ID this piece?

Thanks.

Or is anyone out there a French Cut Square expert who might know?

As was said; it's just a cut square from pre-printed stationery or an envelope.

It could of been a fraudulent use of stationery stamps cut out and pasted on an envelope.!(Rare ;but has to be on an envelope)!
In this link about the 15 centimes...

Hi glh. As the APS told you it is a cut square from a piece of stationery. This sort of thing is noadays not really collected any longer since there is very little that can be said about a cut square. As you can see from perf12's links yours could come from any of a bunch of different items. You would need the whole piece in order to properly identify this.

Thank you to both Perf12 and Petert4522 for the great clarifying information.

I don't collect Cut Squares, but did not want to dismiss this piece out of hand until I had confirmed what it might be and if it might be of interest to someone else.

Your information has helped a lot.
