I have read everyone's post in this topic. I see that most are against grading stamps, but when is it a good idea to certify a stamp for a grade? Some of the older stamps have a big jump in value for a high grade above the catalog value. I have no certified stamps in my collection but I was thinking about getting one graded. I just do not see many of this stamp centered well. Here is the stamp I am thinking about getting graded. Please tell me if you guys think it is worth the money for grading it. Determining the cost of grading is difficult/confusing as well. |

Hi jaxon100, Have you checked the perfs on this stamp? Your image has a bit of skew but you might want to check them. Don |

That is a picture from ebay. I have the stamp here but have not scanned it yet. The skew is caused by the picture angle and does not exist on the stamp. |

If you get the time, please post the scan. This will help determine if the stamp is worthy of spending money on the cert/grading. Don
PS - I trust nothing from NYStamps. |

I took a moment before I run off to work to get a good scan of the stamp. |

Ah, the original image skew was indeed messing with my head, the scan helps. Nice guide dots/line...perhaps some of our experts will post their opinions. Don |

If sound, it shouldn't be lower than 90, and might make 95. But you've got an uphill battle. There's a very low likelihood this gets a clean cert IMO (their reputation precedes them). It's a good test case though - let us know the results if you submit. FWIW, even if it turns out altered/faulty, it's still worth the $28 you paid (IMO). It's a pretty stamp. |

I will start. The top of George's head has been repaired and lines drawn in by hand. |

I think it would get no better than a 90 with the left-right centering being what it is. If I had any concerns about the stamp, it would be the rather clean bottom perfs compared to all others. Definitely shouldn't trust anything from nystamps... |

It will not be graded because the hole left by hinge removal at the top of George's forehead which was repaired is a huge problem. |

rogdcam, I'm not sure what you're looking at, but I don't see any evidence of a large repair (or drawn-in lines). The hairlines in that forehead area are usually light. |

There are diagonal lines drawn in on the top of the forehead that should not be there. |
